The first visit lasts about an hour, and allows time for you to fill out forms (available for download above) and for the doctor to hear your complete medical history and identify problem areas needing to be addressed during the physical exam and treatment. If you have pain, we’ll talk about where it is located, when it started, and what activities make it better or worse. Your blood pressure and reflexes will also be measured. The physical examination will generally be performed through light clothing – it is recommended that you wear or bring clothes that are comfortable and loose fitting. The exam may include observation of posture and range of motion and palpation of muscles, joint movement, and soft tissues. Most often, treatment is offered at this first appointment, but it is sometimes necessary to first order X-rays, MRI, and/or other diagnostic tests, which can take a few days. Subsequent appointments take less time, usually 20-30 minutes.
