Holistic Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a health care approach and profession that emphasizes diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially those of the spine. Doctors of Chiropractic employ a number of non-invasive techniques aimed at restoring balance and function to joints, muscles and other soft tissues of the body. From the Greek chiro, meaning “hand,” chiropractic most commonly involves manual therapies, including manipulation of joints of the spine, other joints, and soft tissues. Treatments may also include exercise, nutrition advice, and lifestyle counseling.

Holism comes from the word holos, meaning all, entire, total. It is the idea that the overall properties of a given system cannot be determined or explained by the component parts alone. Rather, the system as a whole determines in an important way how the parts behave. In health care, a holistic approach emphasizes that good health is gained and maintained by considering together all of the various components that make up the physical body, as well as aspects such as emotional and spiritual well-being. The goal is a wellness that encompasses the entire person, rather than simply a lack of physical symptoms.
